Matches/Scrimmages
Me and my buddies are having a great time pubbing this game, and feel it would be even better to start scrimming. We all used to play some tfc back in the day, but when CS moved to Source and TFC stayed behind, we moved with it. We got back into TFC in the last coupla months to prepare for the new TF games. We never got a chance to play TFC competitively and don't really know how TF scrims/matches work. We know a lot about Counter-Strike scrims and matches, if that helps.
Is there an FF findscrim channel (in gamesurge)? Do servers already have "lo3" configs (or whatever the FF equivalent is)? Maybe someone on the forums could help or a TF veteran would like to join our ventrilo and help us out or give us some tips. EDIT: Adding questions: What's the default/acceptable team player amount (5v5 in CS) What maps are acceptable to scrim on? (obviously maps like hunted are a no no)?

Try #free-tfc or #TFC.Gather.US
I haven't checked them since FF came out so I don't know if they switched to FF, but those were the 2 pick-up scrim channels for TFC |

There are a lot of unwritten rules for 'scrimming', at least there were in TFC. You will probably learn about them the hard way as a lot of experienced clan players are annoyed by non-standard clan play and consider it LAME.
Matches are usually played 8v8 or 9v9 with each team divided into offence and defence. Not sticking to either a defensive or offensive role and deathmatching in the midmap is generally looked down upon. As well is spam, lockdowns, invading spawn etc. Like I said, you'll probably learn by people whining at you. CTF maps are the most commonly played but command point maps are also popular. I have personally never played or seen hunted being played in a clan war. |

I know that FF is a new game with new possibilities, but if you want to play the game tfc clan style then this is basically the way to do it:
1. Play 8v8 style. You can either do this with 16 people, or do it 4v4 and swap over half way through if you're short on players. 2. Put four people on defence and four people on offence. 3. There are certain defensive positions you would need (or might be expected) to adopt. Here are the classic setups for the two main clanstyle maps included with FF: On shutdown 2: put a solider at the top of the ramp, a solider on the plank, a soldier in the flag room and an engineer at the top of the flagroom lift with an sg pointing back at the flag. You could swap in one hwguy for the flagroom or plank soldier. On Monkey: put a solider at the T junction, an engi in the flagroom, a solider in the flagroom pit, and a hwguy or a demo on the flag. There are variations on this where you might have a hwguy and a demo without the pit soldier. 4. For attacking players, play either as scout or medic. You could try spy or offy engi if you want too. Your aim is to attack as quickly as possible, take down the defence and move the flag out either in big movements or by gradually throwing it forwards. 5. If you're playing a full 8v8 and are an offy player, don't shoot the enemy offy as you pass them in the mid map. The exception to this rule is if they are carrying your flag. A lot of people don't understand this rule, but it makes offy more fun to play and you should stick to it unless you want the game to descend into arguments and one big mid map brawl. 6. As a defender, once your flag has got to the mid map, you should let it go and reset. You should only adopt forward positions in places like the yard or put lots of people near the front door when your flag has been moved out of the flagroom. Stick to that and you'll be OK. Some of the 'rules' might seem silly and restrictive, but once you accept them you'll soon find that they facilitate a style of playing which is a lot of fun. I'd like to add that I'm all in favour of breaking out of some of these tactics and trying out new things in FF, but this is what you can expect if you want to play clan style the way it was done in tfc. |

We could also try to facilitate (the last guy used the word and it sounded cool) scrimmages here on the forums!

USA...Gamesurge
#free.tfc #pickupcentral #tfc.gather.us #findff All four are FF related pickup channels. Quote:
Those who were familiar with #find2 and #findtfc (both tfc), it's the same idea. That link also includes the script at the bottom, so support us by being in #findff - run it and be as many channels as possible (so we can detect even more user-pickups).
