If you can get to the splash screen, go to your Video-advanced options and change any values to ones that are pre-marked with an asterisk.

If you can't even get to the splash screen then put '-w 800 -h 600' in your launch options. This forces the game to be played in 800x600 resolution.

When you start FF, are you able to get it up where it shows the initial screen?

If so, you'll see the following
FIND SERVERS
CREATE SERVER
OPTIONS
CROSSHAIRS / TIMERS
QUIT

Select OPTIONS

You'll see the following tabs

Select the VIDEO tab and select ADVANCED
This screen will appear:

Use the drop down box under each selection box and select the option that has an asterisk beside it.
(Model detail, Texture detail, Shader detail, Water detail, Shadow detail, Color Correction, Antialiasing mode, Filtering mode, Wait for vertical sync and High Dynamic Range)

Select OK and OK again.

Now try to play.

This error is something to do with the mod not your computer. I've got all my settings as * and tried windowed which doesn't work properly because everything goes out of sync and looks retarded.

I was getting a hang before which occured within minutes of joining a game if not right away in seconds, but I completely removed all my vid drivers reinstalled (were already latest) and I can usually play for 10minutes or so before it goes now giving me the error in topic of this thread. Then if I go back in again I get a hang at "Sending Client Info" and have to restart my computer.

What kind of video card are yall using? And do you have the latest drivers?

There has been more ATI users having problems then Nvidia users.

Which is a bit ironic since Valve teamed up with ATI.

Google this error and you will see loads of entries and possible fixes... and they are not related to FF but are associated with HL2/Source games:

a few suggestions that I've found:

After all updates and scans still got no results, updating all other drivers and related software,(directx, Omega drivers, etc.) only after deleting and re-installing steam and apps, lowering all my vid and audio settings to medium, and at first I thought running the game in just window and not full screen worked, but after making all the other settings and going back to full screen did I realize that the other things I had done worked. Setting the screen to window did nothing.

I also uninstalled a program I had that was conflicting with either steam or source. It is called K-Lite, it is an audio pack.

I no longer get this error--> Internal driver error in IDirect3DDevice9::Present()
There are a large number of suggestions and links at this URL dating from 2005 thru 2007:

FYI, I put my advanced video settings to one notch lower than the recommended settings and I no longer crash.

It did not work the second time I tried to play.

But it did work for playing all of EP1.

You go into Video settings for FF, advanced and then lower all the settings in that area one less than recommended (recommended is the one with the *).

Another trick is to go into task manager (ctrl-alt-del) and end the process by the name of ccc.exe that is the catalyst control center and for some it has resolved their issue.

I am going to try playing in 800*600 and see what that does.

The error is simple in nature, it is the GPU being overloaded in times of high demand (big spaces, lots of explosions).

All source games pretty much cause this, obviously they have to work on this from their end as well as ATI.
