Prematch is a feature that is heavily used by clans participating in matches. The prematch period allows players to ensure that everything is set up and ready to go in a manner that is fair. This generally means all players are on the server and things are ready to start.

Prematch Model

The model used in FF is based on the hugely successful Counter Strike clanmatch mode. It is a simple but effective system. This consists of the following settings and stages. A rcon user performs these actions:

A prematch limit is set in seconds. This is the period of time that is counted down before the match starts. The prematch limit does not add or detract from the round time; it is independent of round time. The default setting is 15 seconds.

  • Once both teams are ready (see the discussion tab for possible extensions), the rcon user sends the restart round command to the server.
  • A message appears saying "The game will restart in x seconds.", where the x is the value of the prematch limit.
  • The value remains on screen and counts down until it reaches 0.
  • All entities are reset (flags, ammo bags, timers, buildables.. etc. Everything) and players die. The map does not change/restart in a traditional sense, it merely resets.
  • The game is underway. Players spawn when they press a key (if the telefrag avoidance system isn't perfect) or automatically (if it's possible to spawn without telefrag). I'll leave this up to the coders to discuss. Use the discussion tab and pick a behaviour based on the mod's current state.
  • The map time unfreezes and begins to tick down.
