Team Guide

- Communicate! Talking with your teammates is the best way to coordinate attacks. You can’t only learn so much from their actions.
- In Fortress Forever, the flag will return to your base only after a certain amount of time (usually 60 seconds) has passed. Therefore, if the flag is lying on the ground, have all of your defenders set up shop there.
- Always make sure to give Engineers unused ammo with the discard function! They might need the extra cells and other goodies.
- If you’re attacking and see a potential problem (such as a Sentry and HWGuy paired up), let your teammates know so that they can avoid or get ready to attack it.
- If you’re a slower class and you’re carrying the flag, give it to a faster teammate by dropping it via the C key. While slower classes have more armour and health than a fast one, even a HWGuy can’t survive an entire team attacking at once.
- There are no set roles for classes. For example, while experienced players might chastise you for running into the enemy’s base as a HWGuy, he can serve as a very large distraction while your faster teammates slip by.
- When your flag has been stolen, some teams like to place a person (sleeper cell) in your flag room so that when the flag is captured, the sleeper cell will grab the flag as soon as it returns, giving you no time to set up defense. If your flag is out, make sure at least one person stays in the flag room so that they can kill the sleeper cell.
- If your flag is out of your base, it’s probably not going to return. Instead, you should focus all of your attempts on stalling the enemy as much as possible, thus making the timer run down and giving them less time to make extra captures. During this time, you can send in a Spy or similar classes to grab their flag, making them have to stretch their players to the limit to protect their flag and grab yours.
- If your team is being pounded by the enemy, try to get the enemy’s flag. After a few grabs or captures, they’ll start diverting resources to defending the flag, thus giving your defense a chance to set up.
Class Specific
Scout
- Build a jump pad. They make it much easier for slower classes to attack, which can give you covering fire, allowing you to slip by easier. In addition, they can be used as speed boosts by fellow attackers or for quick shortcuts for defenders. Be careful; enemies can also use them!
Sniper
- Use your rifle to boost teammates across ledges. Charge up your rifle, get a teammate that needs a boost in front of you, and fire. He’ll fly across the area, landing on the other side.
- Remember: tagged enemies will appear on all of your teammates screens! If you don’t have enough time to score a one-hit kill on a target, make sure to hit them, so that they’ll be tagged.
Soldier
- If an important person, such as a flag carrier is in front of you, fire a rocket at his feet. He’ll be boosted forward, giving him some extra speed.
- If you want to help a teammate make a quick getaway, throw a nail grenade down. It’ll spew so many nails that enemies will freak out, allowing your teammate to slip out unnoticed. This is especially helpful in small rooms.
Demoman
- You can do the same thing as the soldier, only with your blue or pipe grenades.
- If you’re in front of an important person and feeling a little risky, plant a Detpack in front of an important person so that he’ll be slightly past it when it goes off, giving him a significant boost.
Medic
- Give out Medikits with the right mouse button. This is especially useful for healing offense players that you can’t get to, and as a pickup for any defenders that have been harmed, but you’re about to fly past.
- If anybody’s asking to be healed, do so! Even though you’re primarily a combat class, you should heal if somebody asks for it.
- If you walk by an injured teammate, heal him with the Medikit. It usually doesn’t take too long.
- If you’re waiting for something in a resupply room, make sure to heal and boost fellow player’s health. They’ll appreciate it.
- Give health boosts to powerful classes, such as HWGuys and Soldiers. An extra boost will greatly extend their already-long lives.
Pyro
- As with the Soldier, you can give important people boosts with the IC. It won’t fling them as far, though.
Spy
- Give recon info to your team while undercover, such as locations of Sentries and HWGuys. It’ll help attackers plot their route.
- Take out large threats, such as HWGuys and Sentries. These are the biggest thorns in an attacker’s rear. Doing so will probably expose you, but you can get out by cloaking.
- If you can’t kill an enemy with the backstab and you hear your attackers nearby, tranq a large threat, such as a HWGuy. That’ll knock them out long enough so that your attackers can slip by them.
- Once the team figures out that you’re actively infiltrating them, they’ll start attacking each other, making it easier for your attackers to slip by in the confusion. It’ll be harder for you to successfully infiltrate, but using alternate routes and disguising as a teammate will reduce their paranoia after a while.
Engineer
- If a teammate runs up to you with a red cross on top of his head, he needs his armour repaired. Do so by hitting him with your Spanner a few times. Each successful hit with make a “clink!” sound emit from your target.
- If you’re on offense, try to support your teammates by hitting them with your Spanner and dropping ammo for ones that you suspect are running out of ammo.
- If your defense has a HWGuy, you should build a Dispenser for him. HWGuys run out of ammo and armour fast, especially under fire.
- On Attack and Defend maps, you should build a Dispenser at an area that’s away from your spawn point but not in the enemy’s territory. This’ll make it easier for people to resupply without having to wait in line for backpacks to respawn. This applies for both sides.
- If you’re setting up a large cluster of Sentry Guns with fellow Engineers (especially in Attack and Defend maps such as Dustbowl), build a Dispenser and put supplies in it. Your fellow Engineers will be very thankful.
Civilian
- Always inform your team of your location. Since you’re the target of the assassins, telling your bodyguards where you are will make it much easier to find and protect you.
- Don’t go too far ahead. Make sure you have at least one bodyguard protecting you. It only takes one backstab or sniper shot to off you.
- Never try to charge an enemy. Your umbrella is powerful, but they can break out their melee weapon and take you out faster.
- If you’re playing in a fun map, blaring music over the microphone with HLSS is always helpful.
